Tuvar dal, toor dal or Gujarati dal is a khatti meethi dal that tastes best with phulka roti and plain rice. A Gujarati meal is incomplete without a bowl of this khatti meethi toor dal.

Boiled toor dal with peanuts is cooked with jaggery and red chilli powder, then simmered with a tempering of mustard seeds, fenugreek, whole spices, curry leaves, ginger and tomato.
