Homemade Onion Rings are super crispy, golden and so easy to make. Onion rings are dipped in a lightly spiced batter of maida and corn flour with garlic powder, black pepper and red chilli, then coated in bread crumbs and fried until light golden.
They need only a few ingredients and are easy even if you are a beginner. I serve them as an appetizer or as a side dish, and they disappear fast every time.
Every recipe on Cooking with Siddhi is cooked in my own kitchen before it goes live.

Why you will love these onion rings
- Super crispy: a bread crumb coat over a light batter gives a golden, crunchy shell.
- Few ingredients: onions, maida, corn flour, bread crumbs and a few pantry spices.
- Beginner friendly: one batter, one coating and a simple dip-and-coat routine.
- Starter or side: serve them as an appetizer or alongside a meal.
Ingredient notes
- Maida and corn flour: together they make the batter that holds the bread crumbs on each ring.
- Garlic powder, black pepper and red chilli powder: these season the batter, so every ring is flavourful inside the crunch.
- Cold water: the recipe uses cold water to bring the batter to a semi-thick consistency. Add it a little at a time.
- Bread crumbs: keep a bowlful ready. Use as much as you need to coat every ring evenly.

- 1/4 tsp black pepper powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder

Onion Rings FAQs
How do I make onion rings crispy?
Dip each ring in a semi-thick batter of maida and corn flour, coat it evenly in bread crumbs, and fry in medium-hot oil until light golden.
Why is corn flour added to the batter?
Corn flour goes into the batter along with all-purpose flour, and together they make the coating that holds the bread crumbs on each ring.
How many onions do I need?
This recipe uses onion rings from 2 to 3 onions.
Can I air fry onion rings?
This recipe is deep-fried, and that is the version I make at home. I have not tested an air-fried version yet, so I do not give air fryer timings here.
