The one thing I am glad in the summers is because of the King of Fruits – Mango! This Yellow, sweet, pulpy and succulent fruit is just a boon for the humanity! The flavor and texture vary across cultivars. In India alone, there are around 283 types of mangoes, out of which only 30 are well-known. India is the largest producer of mangoes in the world and it’s an important Agricultural fruit of the country. It is simply amazing that each of the variety of mangoes has a unique taste.
5 most famous varieties of mangoes and their origin.
1. Alphonso – Ratnagiri / Devgarh Hapus, Maharashtra
– One of the best variety and expensive too.
2. Badami – Karnataka Alphonso
– They are called Alphonso of Karnataka because of the similar texture and taste
3. Dasheri – Malihabad, Uttar Pradesh
– Most famous variety in North India. Also just wash it well and you need no knife no plate. Just a dozen of them
4. Totapuri – South India
– Famous mango found primarily in south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. These are oblong with prominent beak in shape and about 6 – 8 inches long. It has rich aromatic flavour and is delicious in which sweetness and acidity are delicately blended.
5. Mulgoba – Tamil Nadu
– One of the earlier mango varietals originating from the south of India and it’s considered by many to be the best tasting in the world
